New Sketches & Hello Again!

Hello Again! Well I certainly got side tracked with life. I couldn’t believe how long it had been since my last post. In the spring I got quite busy with my new blog about my dad and his greenhouse. If you are unfamiliar with my new blog Steve’s Greenhouse, you can have a look. Then my own gardening took over, as well as painting new work.

Soooo today I am sharing my newest sketches, some I shared on my social media channels already. I hope all is well with you and if you are in a summer season, I hope you are enjoying all the warmth and blooms. I know I sure am!

Today’s Simple Nature Sketch

I purchased a Night Sky Petunia this year at a local nursery. I totally fell in love with its cosmic appearance. Not only is it a fun plant to view, it reproduces quite readily. Mine is flourishing in a tall planter with a few other trailing plants.

Today, I decided to draw a piece of this plant that would follow along with my recent sketch along a wabi-sabi theme.  Although this little sprig was tattered and filled with holes, it still exhibited a sense of beauty with its graceful stems and lines. Beauty is not always a demonstration of perfection; nature displays this fact everyday. However, it is up to us to make this discovery as we quietly observe our natural surroundings.

While browsing around my gardens, I discovered this tattered clematis. It had most likely been feasted upon by some small insect. On the surface it paled in beauty, compared to its companions. However, during closer observation its nooks and crannies became quite interesting.
I’m calling it my wabi-sabi flower; imperfect, but still beautiful in its own right. It speaks of beauty and impermanence: acknowledging the natural cycles of life.

Today’s Simple Nature Sketch

I recently escaped to a peaceful location by a lake.  I often went for walks down the long lane leading into the cottage. Along the way, it was fun to observe many forms of plant life. Blueberry bushes were exhibiting small green berries, preparing to ripen in the coming weeks. I loved seeing the variety of green and blue berries. Always a fun berry to sketch!

Warmly,

Debbie
