Today’s Simple Nature Sketch

I have a miniature maple tree I planted years ago. At the moment it is filled with these samaras. When we were younger we called them helicopters. When the wind sweeps them from their branches they whirl and twirl like helicopter wings before landing on the earth below.

I love how they become tinged with a red-pink hue this time of year. They look especially attractive as they group together on tree branches. Dangling precariously, I imagine they are wondering which group will be the first to take flight!
