Today’s Simple Nature Sketch

Spring has finally arrived with new growth making its appearance daily. Once the plants start growing, spring seems to march along quickly. On one of my recent garden walks around our yard, I noticed my lungwort had an abundance of buds on it. Now many of the blooms have begun to burst open.

I love this peculiar plant with its tiny pink and blue flowers and unusual leaves. It has slowly increased in size over the last few years. It is always such a pleasure to see it come to life every spring.

Coincidentally, I noticed that I had sketched this plant exactly one year ago. When I began drawing it today, I was totally unaware of this fact! I thought it was such a neat discovery and it made me realize the cyclical nature of the seasons.

I have a couple more sketches to post on my blog that I completed a bit ago. Life has been busy! As mentioned in my last post, I have started a gardening project with my dad. You can now sign up to have blog posts delivered via email if interested. Just press this link to subscribe.

Plus I have been taking another course with Makelight and I’m working on a behind the scenes project as well. (More on that project at a later date. ) The larger spring painting is almost finished, but I had to set it aside while I work on other work.

I am loving my new studio space that I set up this past winter. Recently, we had our windows replaced in our house and I was able to add a deeper window in my studio! So thrilled to now have more natural light flooding into my studio. I did a little happy dance!

I have used mostly natural light when painting the above picture. As well I am replenishing flowers and painting everything from life as per my working process. In this photo I was working on tulip leaves so I had the live models before me.  Although sometimes challenging, due to the life span of flowers, you just can’t beat working from life!

If you are experiencing spring right now, I hope you are enjoying all the new plant growth and colors!
