Today’s Simple Nature Sketch

On my way into my home today, I noticed the flowing gesture of this Iceland Poppy. I have always been attracted to curves and sweeping lines. These shapes often attract my attention when observing floral subjects and tree branches.  The shape is a gentle sweeping motion that exudes a sense of freedom.  A carefree feeling, that reminds me of when we were children dancing about in nature, in awe of her beauty.

I think poppies aptly depict this shape and emotion. They flow gracefully in gentle breezes, dipping and diving wherever they please. Their  hue alone grabs ones attention, while their curving stems take the eye on a meandering pathway into the space they inhabit.
