I recently added  “Roadside Finds” to my online shop. I picked these weeds on one of my daily walks. Like the saying goes, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”.

I have been really busy signing and photographing new work and will be adding the work to my newly revised website soon. With the holiday season upon us (so hard to believe!) I thought I would begin to feature work here as well.

I have also been updating my neglected Fine Art Ezine!! It’s  now looking like a cousin to my new website. lol Working on another edition of my ezine which should be published in early Dec. It really is tricky publishing a blog, website and adding to social media, plus most importantly doing my artwork that my Ezine got neglected. If you are interested you can sign up to receive it in your inbox here. There is also a sign up to receive my blog posts in your email as well if interested. Thanks!

Today’s Simple Nature Sketch

Statice is such a beautiful filler for floral bouquets. The other day they had this gorgeous violet Statice on sale at the supermarket. Needless to say, I couldn’t resist taking it home with me.

I adore its papery texture and that it lasts for a long time. The bonus is that it can also be dried and tucked into glass bottles for further enjoyment.  I love drawing all the tiny ruffled edges of this delicate flower. They have an airy, wispy feel making them even more enchanting.

The leaves and stems are also quite interesting. Visions of cactus come to mind when I observe their wavy, grooved stems. The leaves are tiny and often protrude in small twists, giving a hairy appearance. If you take a moment to observe this flower closely, you will find many fascinating parts that make it unique!

Warmly,

Debbie

Today’s Simple Nature Sketch

Today I stepped out into the chilly air and went foraging for subject matter.  A vision for a small festive painting was playing in my mind. Red berries would be one of the players.

On my daily walks this past autumn, I had spotted a bush with an abundance of small red berries. They were solid ones that  would last for a while. So with scissors in hand I made my way down a steep ditch and trekked over to retrieve my berries.

I am sure cars passing by were wondering what on earth I was doing as I popped up from the bank with berries in hand.  An artist has to do what is necessary sometimes in order to make their vision a reality.

Warmly,

Debbie

Today’s Simple Nature Sketch

This vine with its bright red berries has woven itself in amongst my Virginia Creeper. I have wondered about its origin for a long time. Today after researching a bit, I discovered that it is called “Nightshade”.  When they flower, they present violet star-shaped blooms. Apparently, some birds like to eat these little berries.

Although the berries are quite attractive, they are poisonous. They are so deceptive because they almost look like they could be edible. I love how they glisten in the autumn light. They are very prominent now, as they perch themselves in between skeletal branches.

P.S. I will have to change my sketch title to Nightshade.

Well I have been a bit quieter lately with my blog posts. I haven’t been idle! I have been really busy giving my website a face-lift. I have simplified it somewhat and also added a few new sections. I still have a bit of tweaking to do yet.

Just wanted to freshen  things up before I add new work. I will be adding new work over  the next couple of weeks. You can check out my New Look here! Always happy to hear any feedback here or on social media. Thanks!

Warmly,

Debbie

Today’s Simple Nature Sketch

Although it is mid November, this odd-shaped begonia has bloomed. It’s inner section has not fully developed into ruffled layers. However, its simplicity and bright hue make it beautiful just the same.

I didn’t have the heart to empty this flowering container when life still existed. I will let nature take its course; allowing it to naturally wane. Frosty nights and future colder days will gently put these little beauties to sleep. Visions of their beauty will then live on in my mind during the long winter months.

Debbie

These snapdragons are nestled beside our foundation. Their sunny presence is a welcome sight this late in the season. This cheerful clump of sunshine makes me smile as I pass by.

I find it amazing how some plants continue to thrive despite the arrival of a few frosty nights. The  intermittent milder days seem to give them a burst of energy, causing them to thrive once again.  I admire their ability to flourish when they should be slowing down. Defying all odds, just like some individuals we meet in life.

Warmly,

Debbie
