Today’s Simple Nature Sketch

Years ago my sister-in-law gave us a few pieces of a Virginia Creeper she had growing on an arbor. We placed the pieces around our deck by merely sticking them into the ground. Anne had assured us that they would take root. Well amazingly they did!

As time passed the vine continued to grow abundantly, entwining itself around our deck and trailing wherever it pleased. In the summer it becomes a beautiful green living wall, offering shade to birds and our cat Marlee. This time of year it transforms into a brilliant glowing red.

With the autumn winds and rain, the leaves are quickly sailing to the ground. Many of our winged friends love to perch on the skeletal vine, seeking shelter during late autumn and winter. In winter the woody vine that is left, looks especially beautiful as ice and snow encase it. In Spring the vine will burst into life and begin its journey into the seasons once again.
