Today’s Simple Nature Sketch

Many years ago, I planted a flowering quince that I bought in a box at Walmart. I was not familiar  with this plant, but loved how it appeared on the box. It was very small when I planted it. A few years went by and not much happened with it. Then one season several bright orange-red blooms appeared! I was thrilled!

Today, my shrub is really large and an abundance of gorgeous blooms appear every spring.  This year, I think it out did itself. I am amazed at all its vibrant blooms. My only wish is that they would last longer.  Living in the moment takes even greater importance, as I  breathe in their short-lived beauty.

I’m so enjoying the Makelight Photography course! Here are a couple more experiments in photographing my miniature work. They were photographed outside on my doorstep in morning light. I like using natural props –seems more organic. It’s fun collecting little bits of nature to style my images!

” A Burst of Light”, is 4x4in. oil on linen/board and was painted from life in Powell’s Pt. Park, Nova Scotia. The sky was really dramatic after a day of rain. Sudden bursts of sunlight made the scene appear magical!
